Committees

B8-C4

There are nine permanent committees that manage all projects and events sponsored by the Corn Hill Neighbors Association.  Unique projects, generally of short duration, are managed by ad-hoc committees.  Occasionally, the CHNA historian will form a temporarily committee.  Every year, the board of directors will appoint or reaffirm chairpersons to lead each committee.  The Chairperson, together with a team of volunteers, then sets an agenda for the coming year and presents a budget proposal to the board of directors.

Committees meet periodically to ensure their projects and events are on track and to help each other as needed.  Our volunteers become involved to any degree they choose, from the infrequent small task to the lead role in planning an event.  Our philosophy is, “The more hands – the lighter the load.” If you’d like to volunteer for a committee, please contact the office at 262-3142 or chna@cornhill.org.

You may also contact our volunteer coordinator, Bonny Mayer, at chnavolunteer@aol.com or visit the volunteer blog at http://chconnection.blogspot.com to learn about current opportunities and/or committee activities.

ARTS  FESTIVAL COMMITTEE

Simply put, this committee is the reason the Corn Hill Arts Festival is alive and well after forty years.  The scope of this two-day festival for 200,000 guests requires hundreds of volunteers.  To make it all work, the chairperson of the festival committee leads a management team whose members each lead a committee of their own.  Planning for the next festival begins less than a month after a festival closes.  Revenues from each year’s festival are used to fund all CHNA committees and projects.  If you would like to become part of this exciting group, contact the festival chairperson.

Chairperson: Jeff Holdsworth

BEAUTIFICATION COMMITTEE

The beauty of Corn Hill is no accident.  Members of the beautification committee are involved in every aspect of creating and maintaining Corn Hill’s inviting public spaces. Some of the ongoing projects are support of the community vegetable garden, planting flowers in our parks, contracting with various landscaping firms, decorating for the holidays, installing Historic Corn Hill banners, the installation and maintenance of  brick columns on street corners, working with the city parks department and much, much more.  If you know of a potential project for “Beautification” or would like to help out, contact us at the association office.

Chairperson: Sue Porter

DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE

This group takes the lead on community outreach efforts and is the association’s interface to the city of Rochester and local organizations.  Their  mission includes a proactive role in zoning issues, problem properties, riverfront development planning, the Sector V planning committee (part of the "Neighbors Building Neighborhoods" program) and partnering with the South Wedge community on the South Wedge/Corn Hill Tool Library.  The development committee also sponsors events like the annual Halloween Children’s Party and the Holiday Tour of Homes.

Chairperson: Steve Baldwin

FINANCE COMMITTEE

The finance committee manages the investments of the CHNA Corporation.  Reporting directly to the board, they make financial recommendations based on their analysis of markets, performance of accounts and the stated financial goals of the association.

Chairperson: Barb Hendry

THE GAZETTE

The official printed communications media of the association is “The Gazette”.  It is published ten times a year under the direction of the editor.  It includes neighborhood and community news, association notices, articles and listings of local businesses and real estate.   The Gazette takes no paid advertising, is professionally printed and is mailed to each residence at no cost to them.

Chairperson: Linda Frey

PHILANTHROPY COMMITTEE

Every year the philanthropy committee invests thousands of dollars in our community.  They do this by overseeing a number of programs from awarding scholarships and grants to providing emergency relief for qualifying residents.  In addition to funding local needs, the committee works with CHNA grant recipients to discover and then qualify for support from other sources.

Chairperson: Wendy Rose

REVOLVING  FUND COMMITTEE

The revolving fund committee was established to provide secured loans at attractive interest rates to Corn Hill property owners for capital improvements to their property.  The goal of this program is to maintain the quality and character of Corn Hill homes.

Chairperson: Peter Mohr

SECURITY COMMITTEE

If it’s about safety and security in our neighborhood, this is the group that understands it.  For a closer look at the wide array of programs run by the security committee, click on “Living Here / Information for Residents”.

SOCIAL COMMITTEE

This committee exists because social events are such an important part of a vibrant community.  The social committee plans, coordinates and hosts numerous neighborhood social functions throughout the year.  Events include wine tastings, baseball outings, yard sales, concerts in the park, the annual holiday party, the New Year’s Eve party and many, many more.
